Very nice Torpedo. I love the watch mount. It looks like a sneaky way for the secretary to watch the clock. Just teasing. I bet it is handy. I have never seen a typewriter with a clock or watch before.
Hah! That's cool! And methinks that you could slot a number of different watches into that recess. And I like the space-age, Atomic Era number font on the dial. By the way, gorgeous looking typewriter. That colour combo makes it look edible.
That watch matches the typer's paint job - don't get rid of it! Hand-wound is much better than quartz, especially for a manual typewriter. If it were a Selectric, okay, maybe stick in a battery-powered, but not in a manual!
@Bill- It definitely could be handy for 'watching the clock', as you put it. Definitely a neat alternative to having a desktop clock.
@Ted- You think it looks nice? You should try typing with it! A great little machine.
@Marty- Thanks for the offer, but I might just have to pass on that. Not that you didn't do a fantastic job with the Kolibri, of course.
@Scott- Well, considering it isn't even a full month into the year...oh, nevermind... Ha! It is definitely neat and I jumped at the auction like a wild hound. A wild...drunk hound...
@Florian- Unfortunately, the issue that the guy included with this typewriter didn't have that article in it. I would love to read up on anything that may have been written about it.
@Teeritz- The watch is definitely interesting looking. Nothing I would choose for myself, but it does go well with the typewriter.
@Ton- That's pretty much what my collecting has boiled down to: Olympias, and interesting machines. Also, interesting Olympias!
@Brian- I don't like a quartz watch, trust me. I don't really plan on changing it. However, if this (somehow) became my everyday machine, I would have to put a quartz watch in there. Not only is the ribbon cover a pain to get out, but it is quite an ordeal to get that watch out of that slot. Quite snug, you know.
@Richard- Thanks for the picture! It's neat to know there are other Torpedo models that got this 'treatment'. I wonder how many there are out there...

ReplyDeleteI've e-mailed you a photo of another Torpedo (different model) with a built-in watch. These are the only two I've ever seen.
