Really enjoy these moments shared pieces. after all, after a while, constantly reading and writing about typewriters would be boring. its truly more about sharing this little fragments that might otherwise be lost. getting out what we can before it hides back. good stuff, my friend!
We bought an antique reel-to-reel at a yard sale ($5) with a tape where a man and his son from South Boston discussed the blizzard of 78 as it was starting and then after. The machine played the tape once and then broke down. It felt like we'd been eavesdropping on private conversations and then had the door closed on us.
There have to be a lot of these old homemade tapes around the country. If someone were to digitize these recordings it would make a hell of a podcast!
very interesting entry. havving dealt with so much family detritus recently the hard-and-fast rule is "the person who insists it be kept is responsible for it." make him take the firebox.
