The Simpson's labeled Antares Parva. It was so hard to get a good picture of the plaque, so this will have to do. Anyone have more info on these?
Ain't she a beaut? The Corona Comet DeLuxe. What is the difference between the Deluxe and the standard Comet? This seems to be only lacking tab.

DeleteIt is a neat little typer. I love the overall look and feel of it, but it does need some tuning and oiling. One of those where the space bar is not quite as sensitive as the keys, you know?

DeleteCable just got too damn expensive. Besides, I really only watched Law & Order (ahh...delicious), and it just ate into my reading time. I been happily without TV for a few years now, and I don't think I will ever look back.

ReplyDeleteAs for the SG3, maybe the loudness is caused by a rock-hard platen and it's a candidate for a new platen someday?
This is most definitely part of the cause, although I assume such a massive machine would be loud in its own right with a softer platen. I would love to replace the rubber on nearly all of my typewriters, but I have a few that actually NEED it, due to flats/cracks/chips. They are first on the list...the moment I purchase the appropriate rubber. Then, I am sure I will work my way through them.
DeleteHave you had any luck replacing platens yourself? If so, any tips? I found a good website to provide the rubber, and I have the general gist of it, but any help would be great.

ReplyDeleteI have a Parva too. What's the serial number on yours? I fine it a bit rattly but it's fun and interesting. Mine has a too-large typeface too. Now that the bike rack is tested and proven secure, I can start risking more interesting machines on it so I'll take that one out soon. Love that Corona!
The serial number on mine is located on the bottom side of the machine, on the chrome directly under the space bar. It is C-043290.
DeleteI love seeing all of the posts of people with typewriters strapped to their bikes. Really makes me want to ride a bike...but I have not since I was in grade school. Not that I couldn't, I just don't feel the draw to it.
Glad I could help, albeit indirectly! Those awful bushings are the Achilles heel of the SM3. Replace them, and I think the rest of the machine is practically indestructible.

DeleteIt really does feel indestructible. Like a miniature SG, which I assume was the intent. Great little typer. I must say, it feels far more solid than my SM7 or 9. But...the 9 has that glorious segment shift.

ReplyDeleteThanks! I have found the typeface on most any Olympia to be awesome. Of the four I have, they are all nice and small, aside from the SM9 with techno. I would love to have one with script...but then again, any typer with script would be nice. I don't know what it is, but that would really be a treat.
