I apologize for the lighting in these pictures. Too late for any natural light from the windows...
The controls of the radio. There are a few small spaces to the side of this, where I keep letters and my notebooks of story ideas. I could not get a picture of the speaker on the underside, but I will say that it is a bit damaged. This radio does not work in the least, but really I do not listen to the radio anyway.
And no, that clock does not display the proper time. I found a dozen of these in the dumpster of a store we had nearly completed building, and snagged one. It ran for a few hours, but died. Hey, it's...1:44 somewhere!
That's a cozy area you have, and I love that radio desk! It's discouraging how much tidier you all are than I am.

ReplyDeleteIt works just fine, though is a little loud. I have a bigger blue one, a Diehl, that needs a little work. Probably just needs the inside cleaned a bit.

ReplyDeleteI surmise that to be a fact. I will occasionally have coffee when I write, but I think booze is a must. Really gets you going, and then it's like reading something brand new in the morning. Who was it, Earnest Hemingway, that said "Write drunk; edit sober". Great!

ReplyDeleteI love old radios whether they are functional or not. That is a great feature - the vacuum tube version of a Royal Swinger.
That was the entire idea behind it! When I purchased this desk, I had only just learned of the Royal with the radio (be it Swinger, Sprite, Fleetwood...all of em) and thought it was a neat idea. Then I stumble upon this desk. In the words of Mike Wolfe, "I had to have it".

I think you can really get to know someone even more than they intend once they let you see a space they spend a lot of time at, especially very personal time such as writing is. I have been thinking of my eventual typewriter repair/writing spot for the last couple months. I envision it as a retreat, likely in the garage since there really is no where else to go in my house. I've looked at tables but I think I've settled on a desk with lots of cubby holes and drawers and character. I've flirted with acquiring one but know that it isn't the right time for now. Maybe in 6-8months once we've truly settled in to our home.

You give me great ideas. I do, eventually, have to do something with my garage. The whole layout of my house is weird, as it sits atop a huge hill on the side of the road. My garage is actually a floor below my basement, and the roof of my garage is actually a concrete pad, fenced in, that serves as a patio. The garage is not water tight, even after several attempts at repair, but once it is I have many plans for that huge space!
